On the first night of the Easter holidays, the sea vanishes from the harbour under a full Moon, and Maya finds the last page of an old Moon book left blank: the side of the Moon nobody has ever seen. Sure it is the dark side and never sees the Sun, she takes Leo and Orbit through the observatory door to draw it by lantern light, and loses the way home in the dark. Two weeks of drawing the Moon every night show her what she got wrong, and a second door, with only half a lantern of oil, takes them back.

About the Sky Keepers series
Sky Keepers is a series of illustrated adventures for readers aged ten to twelve about space as it really is. Cousins Maya and Leo, with a clockwork owl whose star chart stopped in 1889, step through an old observatory door to real places in the solar system and beyond. Each book delivers one astronomy topic through a story with real stakes, and shows how astronomers found out what the owl never knew.
